Privacy Policy

What AskEngine does

AskEngine is a Chrome extension that reads the content of web pages you visit and lets you ask questions about that content using AI. It extracts text, product listings, and other structured data from the page you're currently viewing and sends it to an AI model to generate answers.

Data we collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the service:

• Anonymous usage ID — A randomly generated identifier stored locally in your browser. This is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information. It's used solely to track your query count for the free tier.
• Query count — The number of queries you've made, used to enforce the free tier limit.
• Payment information — If you subscribe to AskEngine Pro, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number. We store only your Stripe customer ID to manage your subscription status.

Data we do NOT collect

• We do not collect your name, email, or personal information (unless you provide it to Stripe when subscribing)
• We do not store the content of pages you visit
• We do not store your queries or AI responses
• We do not track your browsing history
• We do not sell any data to third parties
• We do not display ads

How page data is processed

When you ask a question, the extension extracts relevant content from the page you're currently viewing and sends it — along with your question — to our proxy server, which forwards it to the Anthropic API (Claude) for processing. This data is sent in real-time, used to generate your answer, and is not stored by us. Anthropic's data retention policies apply to data processed by their API — see Anthropic's privacy policy.

Data storage

Your anonymous user ID and query count are stored in Cloudflare Workers KV, a serverless key-value store. This data expires automatically after 90 days of inactivity for free users and 13 months for paid subscribers. No other data is persisted.

Your API key

If you choose to use your own Anthropic API key instead of subscribing, your key is stored locally in your browser's extension storage and sent directly to Anthropic's API. It is never sent to or stored on our servers.

Third-party services

Children's privacy

AskEngine is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
